From approximately 4:52 pm until 5:16 pm EST, two database servers within the US east coast production cluster experienced CPU utilization and connection count spikes that caused the GoTab QR ordering and POS applications to experience slow response times, and in some cases, time out. The auto-scaling policy that automatically triggers additional resources to be added to the database cluster triggered alarms, but did not cross the threshold to allocate more resources. As a result, GoTab's engineering team intervened and manually added extra computing resources and triggered the necessary failover to cause traffic to be redistributed among the new, higher-spec resources. This incident primarily affected US east coast customers, as traffic to our US West and US Central regions remained within normal tolerances. Coincidentally, during this same time period (from approximately 5:00 pm EST to 5:44 pm EST) our payment processing partner experienced issues with delayed modification processing which affected some capture, refund and cancelation activities on their platform.
